What does the Healer do?

There is the idea that the healer’s role is to heal;

There is also the idea that the healer’s role is to lead, inspire, and reveal.

I’m no different than you. I have no special powers, no magical hands, no ability to channel the divine. I am human, undergoing the human experience, just like you.

Although acupuncture continues to garner mounting evidence through clinical trials that it is an effective therapy for many modern-day conditions, it can still come off as rather mysterious.

Chinese Medicine is a subtle art; therefore, it works on the subtle realm. With all the noise, distraction, and influence in our society, our awareness to truly understand and appreciate the subtle can be compromised. We often need big loud things, that make big loud noises to consciously experience a perceived improvement.

So, when someone walks into my clinic, and they experience a near instant transformation, all a sudden I am a miracle worker. It wasn’t a big loud thing that made a big loud noise, but there was a profound experience of being free from suffering. It had to have been a miracle.

Lucky for you, it was not a miracle, and I am not a miracle healer. I think it’s safe to say that we are far beyond the supreme notion of the magical, mythical, shamanic healer priest in our point of human history. Sure, spontaneous recoveries occur, often without scientific explanation. But I think this only points to our own inherent capabilities to self-heal. Otherwise, we are just putting someone on a pedestal that doesn’t really need to be there. Putting someone or something that we don’t understand on a pedestal can be deeply disempowering. And any sort of “healing” that we experience at that point in time is merely temporary and only qualifies as symptom relief if we don’t take responsibility and do the work necessary to continue that journey toward being a better human.

In a former article, I talk about the near instant transformation that can occur after treatment and call it the Window of Opportunity. It comes bearing the idea that it is only temporary if change and inner awareness does not continue to evolve and expand. It’s merely a reminder of your own strength and potential.

As healers in these instant gratification and tech-driven times, I hold to the notion that we are simply here to lead by example. To do what we can and puzzle through and work through all the hard stuff, in all lines of development, so that we can continue holding the flashlight for you toward a path of growth and greater meaning. We can’t lead if we remain glued to that sticky golden pedestal of VIP knowledge that only serves to feed the ego, with the light shining on us, rather than on you and your path forward.

Sure, we can take some credit for all the hard, self-work we do so that we can keep our finger on the on-button of the flashlight. But the healing… that’s on you, my friend. Embrace the opportunity, and I promise to do everything in my power to support your pure potential and inherent capability to do so.
